Our skin is the body’s largest organ and is often the first place a dodgy diet will show it’s face (excuse the pun). We need to take care of our skin from the inside out, not just treat the symptoms on a surface level with topical skin care products. The best way to do this is to include clear-skin foods into our diet.
We’ve collected our favourite pro-skin foods in today’s post:
1. Nuts and seeds
Nut and seeds like walnuts, chia and flaxseed, are full of vitamins and minerals that our skin loves. The selenium in nuts will help increase infection-fighting white blood cells, and Vitamin E collects in the skin’s top layers to protect our cells. You’re also going to find manganese, potassium, iron, calcium and copper in nuts, which are essential for healthy skin.
Bonus: You’ll find a tonne of good fats in nuts too! Check out the next food to make our list for the benefits of healthy fats for skin.
2. Sardines
Did you know sardines have more omega-3 fatty acids than salmon? They also beat salmon in protein, calcium, B12 and iron! B12 can improve eczema, and omega-3 fatty acids can help to ease acne, dry skin, dandruff and inflammation. Sardines also include a B vitamin known as biotin. Biotin plays a major role in supporting the health of our hair, nails and skin. Win!
3. Citrus fruits
It’s well known that citrus is a Vitamin C powerhouse, but did you know that Vitamin C is key to clear and healthy skin? That’s right; Vitamin C is an antioxidant which works to protect skin cells from free radical damage. As a bonus, it also helps the body produce collagen, our skin’s support structure!
4. Orange veggies
Sweet potato, carrot, pumpkin and cantaloupe (rockmelon) are full of antioxidant-rich vitamins A and E. Vitamin A is essential for the regulation of cell production, and turnover (hello new, fresh skin cells!) and Vitamin E is a wonderful anti-inflammatory which can do exceptional things for acne.
5. Turmeric
It’s not just foods that can be excellent for our skin; spices also get a look in. Like citrus and orange veggies, turmeric is an exceptional source of antioxidants and acts as an anti-inflammatory in the body. Reducing inflammation and oxidative stress is a recipe for clear skin!
We love to use these clear skin foods in our menus here at Chef Good. Make sure to order before 11.30pm Tuesday to get your order this Sunday!
